From preconception to postpartum, the road to parenthood can be bumpy.
Online therapy in California and Hawaii
Becoming a parent can involve a rollercoaster of emotions even when all goes as planned and it’s something you’ve dreamed about for years. Your journey may have involved bumps or detours such as infertility or loss, pregnancy complications or a fetal diagnosis. If you find that you’re asking yourself “why is it this hard” and feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and like you’re not enough, you’re not alone.
It can feel hard to enjoy the precious moments and milestones when you’re in survival mode.
With support from a provider with expertise and training in reproductive and perinatal mental health, you’ll find your way back to feeling like yourself again. It’s hard to heal on your own, which is why I’m here to walk that path with you.
Dr. Jensen offers a warm and collaborative approach combined with extensive training and experience in reproductive and perinatal mental health.

Infertility
Infertility can be a particularly lonely and isolating experience, specially when it feels like those around you are able to conceive with little effort. Working with a therapist that understands the emotional aspects as well as the medical and physical demands of fertility treatment is essential. There is evidence that psychotherapy improves fertility treatment outcomes and coping with and emotions through a mind-body approach can allow the process and treatment to feel more manageable and less isolating.
Pregnancy Loss
The loss of a pregnancy is devastating and often leaves one feeling empty, lost, and fearful. The emotions that accompany loss can feel overwhelming and even debilitating at times. The physical and emotional aspects and the fact that it’s not visible to many can further complicate feelings of grief. As can the fear of trying again. Specialized support and treatment to work through grief and trauma can assist greatly in the healing process.
Birth Trauma
A traumatic birth can transform an experience that was expected to be magical into one that we never want to look back on again. A nonjudgemental and supportive space to process your birth trauma can provide relief from nightmares and flashbacks, intrusive thoughts and memories, anxiety, and avoidance. Healing from birth trauma also means facilitating a healthy attachment or bond to your baby and the ability to feel more present and joyful as you navigate postpartum.
Perinatal Mental Health
Pregnancy and postpartum are transformative in a number of ways but also involve many unique challenges, stressors, and adjustments. Going through this time is difficult, but especially so when perinatal mood and anxiety is a part of the experience. Many of the conditions of new parenthood (sleep deprivation, hormonal changes, relationship transitions) can exacerbate underlying depression and anxiety that was previously better managed.
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement and Desensitization Therapy is an evidence-based therapy for trauma, attachment difficulties, grief/loss, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and more. EMDR assists the brain in processing distressing or traumatic memories, negative beliefs, and unpleasant emotions and body sensations as well as integrating more healthy and adaptive information that provides relief and healing.
